In the version of the Persians of Aeschylus that has been transmitted, the death of Dareius is not announced, nor does the chorus clap its hands and say ‘iauoi’... But Herodicus says that there were two versions (of the Persians) and that the one that is at issue here included the battle of Plataea. This version of the Persians seems to have been produced by Aeschylus in Syracuse, at the behest of Hieron, as Eratosthenes says in the third book of his On Comedies.
