They have set up the following images of poets or those otherwise famous in music: Thamyris himself, already blind and holding his broken lyre, Arion of Methymna is on a dolphin. But the man who made the statue of Sacadas the Argive, not having understood Pindar’s prelude to him, made the piper no bigger in his body than his pipes. Hesiod is seated, with his lyre on his knees, a completely unsuitable prop. For it is clear from the verses themselves that he sang to the beat of a laurel staff. But as to the age of Hesiod and Homer, although I have made a very careful investigation into the matter, I did not find it an agreeable subject to write about, knowing how eager others are to find fault, not least those who are experts on epic poetry in my day. A statue of Telete has been made and stands next to that of Orpheus the Thracian, etc.
