γῆς ἐργασίας, καρπῶν ὥρας, ἀρότους· ὁ δὲ θεῖος Ὅμηρος

For consider how useful our noble-minded poets have been from the beginning. Orpheus revealed to us the mysteries and abstinence from murder, Musaeus taught us cures from illnesses and oracles, Hesiod working the land, the seasons for fruits, ploughing: but as for godlike Homer, from what did he acquire honour and fame besides this, that he taught useful things: drawing up troops, brave deeds, the arming of men?
